Hedviga was born in Levice, Slovakia, and spent her childhood playing in her grandparents‘ village garden and treehouse, helping with garden tasks, and enjoying forest walks. Now based in Bratislava, she has a studio in the city’s historic center.
Art is a family tradition; her mother is a jeweler, and her grandparents were also creative. Hedviga spent countless hours in her mother’s studio, observing metalwork and exploring her own creativity through drawing, collages, and jewelry making.
She studied classical graphic techniques and book design at the Secondary
School of Art, then continued at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, focusing
on children’s book illustration. Since 2019, she has been a member of the Slovak Illustrators Association, winning the Most Beautiful Book in Slovakia award.
Her main inspirations are her collection of picture books, discussions with other illustrators, and feedback from her husband, her most honest critic. Her style is colorful and clean, aiming for harmony with an element of surprise, often hiding small details to create
a playful viewer experience. Starting with pencil sketches to establish composition and perspective, she finishes digitally using tools like Adobe Photoshop, Procreate, and Illustrator. She also enjoys traditional techniques like screen printing and linocut. Procreate has become her preferred medium, allowing her to work anywhere—from her studio to a coffee shop or her garden.
